So I guess this is the week when all the action happens. That's the rumor anyway. I think that's pretty messed up to wait until one week before the APA. Has anyone not yet bought a ticket to Philly, having not heard back anything positive about interviews? That would really suck to have to buy a plane ticket on such short notice; probably pretty pricey.
Anyway, let's keep an eye on Wiki developments in this thread. It's Monday morning. Let's see how fast the hammer drops.
One VAP already called today:
Kenyon College[/u] - The Integrated Program in Humane Studies: application acknowledged (12/2); called for interview (12/15)
Not a bad way to wake up.

I also heard that this week should be fast paced. I'm hoping it will turn things around for me. But really I feel like a chronic gambler at the blackjack table swearing that I'm about to hit a hot streak (at least I'm drinking like I'm at a blackjack table). Like in Vegas, the odds are not on my side in Philly. In fact, I would LOVE Vegas odds while on the job market.

"Hey, good morning. Would you like to interview for the chance to become our total academic b*tch for one year, before we kick you to the curb and let you go through this mess again, during a deeper recession?"

Case Western Reserve University- APA interview scheduled (12/15) Ithaca College- emailed to schedule APA interview (12/15, 12/15) LaSalle University- APA interview scheduled (12/12, 12/12); rejection by mail (12/15) One of those hurts bad. Real bad. Uuuugggghhhhh.......... But here's a spot of good news: Emory University- Philosophical Psychology: received letter stating that the search is on hold update on 12/15 via email that the search has been re-activated; finalists will be contacted after the holidays Maybe it's foolish, but I'm now starting to hope that other programs will reactivate their canceled searches.

Hey, good morning. Would you like to interview for the chance to become our total academic pregnant dog for one year, before we kick you to the curb and let you go through this mess again, during a deeper recession? I just noticed that this message board changed "b*tch" to "pregnant dog." Which is about 100x funnier.

Maybe it's foolish, but I'm now starting to hope that other programs will reactivate their canceled searches. i think you'd be better off not getting your hopes up. chances are even more searches will be canceled. they'll probably let you know right after your interview. "well, it was nice meeting you. you seem like a great candidate. now, pfo."

I must say, it's pretty foolish to expect that suspended searches are going to be reactivated. Yea, there might be one or two, but I guarantee that searches yet to be cancelled will outnumber reactivated searches at least 10 to 1. You think things are bad now, but wait until the end of January...

You know, much less has happened today (Monday) than I had hoped. I thought this week was going to be extremely active on the Wiki, but so far that's not the case.

Here are some more developments:
American University - application acknowledged (11/6); APA interview scheduled (by phone) (12/15)
Appalachian State University -rejection letter (12/15)
Barnard College -application acknowledged, ditto (12/15)
Is it just me, or is it weird to acknowledge an application less than two weeks before the APA? I still haven't had apps acknowledged by a few places, but I just assumed they would never acknowledge them.

University of British Columbia - Open: campus visit scheduled (12/15)
University of California, San Diego - campus visit scheduled (12/15)
University of Chicago - Early Modern: online application; campus visit scheduled (12/15)
Chicago State University - application acknowledged (11/17); ditto (12/5, 12/15) - phone interviews to be arranged by mid-January
Duke University, Thompson Writing Program -application acknowledged (11/15); rejection letter received (12/15)
What is with all these campus visits? Is there a conspiracy to boycott the APA? Is this an effort to save money on the part of search committees?

A lot of schools are probably going directly to campus visits so that they can get their hiring done as soon as possible. The later in the year that they hire, the greater the chance that their school will pull the funding. Once they have someone signed, they're guaranteed the position. But until then, the school can yank it at any time, so it behooves them to move quickly.

I'm under the impression that the UC schools always skip the APA

What happened to the deluge of wiki action this week? So far, very little movement, or at least much less than I was expecting. Perhaps by Friday...

I'm seriously losing sleep over this. The last two days I've woken up two hours before I needed to because I couldn't stop thinking about the wiki and checking my email. Both mornings, I was greeted with an inactive wiki and spam in my inbox. What the eff?
