At least you are getting spam. Anyone else send themselves email from another account just to make sure that it's working?

Haha, no, I haven't done that. But I have checked my university mail account that I give out to search committees, even though I know perfectly well that the email forwarding system I set up works.

Paranoia is a necessary evil.

For some. Paranoia, on the other hand, is a bottle we are all drinking from at the moment.

Has anyone heard anything from Texas A&M, College station or George Mason?

There's been some action on the wiki today: California State University, Los Angeles - application acknowledged (11/1); scheduled APA interview (12/16)
Loyola College, Maryland -Philosophy of Religion: emailed to schedule APA interview (12/16)
Marymount University (Arlington, VA) -called to schedule APA interview (12/16)
University of Massachusetts, Amherst - application acknowledged (11/17); ditto (12/10); emailed to say on long short list, no APA interviews, 4-5 candidates will be invited for on campus interviews though there is a chance the position may be cancelled (12/16)
Northland College - email rejection (12/16)
Cornell College - application acknowledged (12/8); APA interview scheduled (12/16)
Unfortunately there's been no action in my email inbox or on my phone.

WTF's up with the wiki? Anyone know? Is someone trying to make some effed up political statement like last year by deleting the only thin thread some of us have to news about the job market?

Looks like there is a LOT of action on the wiki today so far. I woke up to a PFO email from Stonehill, which was pretty fantastic. Maybe I can get another one just in time for bed.

Yes, I too received that PFO from Stonehill. I don't think I've ever received a PFO letter in the form of a picture file I had to download to open. I guess it's for easy framing?
I know I shouldn't think these thoughts, but am I the only one who gets a little pissed getting PFO letters from departments whose members consist of people with crappier vitas than mine. I'm sure that makes me a jerk, but I work my ass off, I'm getting pubs and conferences, and I don't see that it's doing much for me. f**k.

Uncollected thoughts from an interviewer/file reader: 1) The whole Eastern APA schedule is a horror. On the other hand, most depts do not know if searches are approved until end of September, at least. Then, depts have to get an ad out through HR offices which can be ...slow. We want to give ample time for candidates to see the ad, put their files together, and get materials to us. Then, we start the very time-consuming process of readings all the files, having multiple meetings in which we haggle and struggle, etc. Finally, we get an interview list and contact people as quickly as possible. So, here we are 2 weeks before the APA. 2. To humeismyhomeboy [love the name]: you are probably not a jerk. When we look at some files, the humble among us often think, "Wow, I should give this person my job." On the other hand, at least some of us have proven records of teaching, publishing, and service. So, even if our publication rates are less than those of an ABD or newly minted PhD, we might have something to offer our institutions. 3. I wish this were all less awful for all of you [and us, actually]. Hang in there.
