Department web page: www.uhh.hawaii.edu/academics/philosophy/. Minimum Qualifications: MA in philosophy from an accredited college or university prior to application; area of specialization: aesthetics; areas of competence: informal logic and at least one of the following: philosophy of language, American philosophy, philosophy of psychology, environmental ethics, a great figure; evidence of ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level; evidence of commitment to ongoing scholarship in philosophy; ability to communicate clearly in the classroom and in the context of other student and faculty interactions. What the hell is "a great figure?" I mean, I know what a great figure is in a hittin' the beaches in Waikiki in a bikini kinda context, but what the hell are they talkin' 'bout, Willis? Also, doesn't this seem like an awful lot of duties for a VAP?

Well, I assume Aristotle, Kant, Spinoza, etc. would count as "great figures" in philosophy
