I was one of those who had a campus visit. I assure you that you should not be upset. This school is very screwed up. How so? What do you mean by "screwed up"?

I'm not upset about getting a PFO. Relieved, actually. I'm quite familiar with MSMC, and only applied because the market is so sh*tty this year. I just thought the letter itself was kinda tacky. Still marginally better, I suppose, than getting no letter at all.

anyways maybe 'newberg' looks like a war zone, but MSMC is in NewBURGH. the college is smack in the middle of a beautiful historical district, and right next to the hudson. they didn't hire me, but i wish that they had!

The spirits compel me to reply to the previous post. Sure, MSMC's location on the Hudson is idyllic; however, the fact that it has the highest crime rate in all of New York State is not a selling point. Perhaps you would like to raise your kids in such a place, but I would rather my kids not get approached to buy crack on their way to school. To the rest of the folks who applied to MSMC: if you would have accepted the job, then here's what you would have had to look forward to: (1) a 4/4 load, with the strong possibility of an unpaid overload of one more course; (2) the possibility that two of your four courses EACH semester would be a GenEd course (this is an initiative of the Dean); (3) little chance of offering a philosophy seminar of your choosing; (3) there is the lovely expectation that faculty should have a 9-5 mentality--though this was not made explicit, I got the impression that this was so; (4) working with colleagues who went to inferior graduate programs--this market affords them the opportunity to recruit philosophers who are stronger than themselves. For at least these reasons, I'm delighted to not be on my way to MSMC. I wish all of you and MSMC good fortune.

Newburgh is indeed a sh*thole. But it is within driving distance (depending on your tolerance for commuting), of some pretty nice towns nearby, like New Paltz. MSMC, on the other hand -- pretty little campus, odd little school. Kind of a votech/community college/SLAC.
