Hi, it looks unlikely that I'll be getting any interviews this year. The problem is, though, that I've booked my flight (coming from UK) and all the conference registration. Is it still worth coming to the APA event irrespective of the non-interview? Frankly, I could do without enduring a philosophy conference over the Christmas break - but will the APA placement service be worth pursuing? Thanks.

See the "APA Job Service" thread for the negative response to your question.

I suppose it depends on how much of your flight will be refunded. Is there a fee to change your flight? Would/did your department cover the cost of the flight?

Thanks. I gather I can get the tax refunded. My department contribute only £100. British academia was divested of hope a long time ago. The flight is paid for, but it's the hotel fee that would really drive me into the ground - which is going to hurt all the more if I'm simple a bystander at the APA without any legitimate reason for being present other than to catch the occasional interesting paper and explore a new city in solitude.

Is anyone else that you know going that you could split a hotel room with?
